Chris Martin has reaffirmed Coldplay‘s plans to only record 12 albums – but insists the group will continue to make music.

With the band’s 10th LP ‘Moon Music‘ due to arrive on Friday, October 4, the singer discussed the project, along with plans for the future, with Apple Music’s Zane Lowe, during which he insisted they’ll only record two more.

“We are only going to do 12 proper albums and that’s real. Yeah, I promise,” said the Yellow singer. “Because less is more and, for some of our critics, even less would be even more! It’s really important that we have that limit.”

On the thinking behind their 12 LP limit, he reflected: “There’s only seven ‘Harry Potter’ [books]. There’s only 12-and-a-half Beatles albums, there’s about the same for Bob Marley, so all our heroes. Also, having that limit means the quality control is so high right now, and for a song to make it, it’s almost impossible, which is great.”

But Coldplay won’t stop making music altogether, he insisted. “That will always continue in some way, but there’s something about the Coldplay thing. I don’t know where the songs come from,” said Martin.

“I don’t know where the ideas come from, but that’s just been coming to me for about four or five years now. Like, ‘You have to finish like this,’ and I trust that just like I trust the songs.”

‘Moon Music‘ serves as the follow-up to 2022’s ‘Music Of The Spheres’ and features the lead single feelslikeimfallinginlove, out now.

In line with their environmentally conscious ethos, ‘Moon Music‘ will be the first album to be released as a 140g EcoRecord LP, with each copy made from 9 recycled PET-plastic bottles recovered from post-consumer waste, resulting in an 85 per cent reduction in manufacturing process CO2 emissions/kg compared to traditional 140g vinyl.

Meanwhile, CD editions will be the world’s first to be released on EcoCD, created from 90% recycled polycarbonate, sourced from post-consumer waste streams and providing a minimum 78 per cent CO2/kg emission reduction.

‘Moon Music’ is out October 4 and available to pre-order from Amazon, HMV, Rough Trade, Townsend and more.

In support of the album, Coldplay will play a run of major shows throughout summer 2025, launching with two stops at Craven Park Stadium, Hull in August, before heading to London for 10 performances at Wembley Stadium.
