Duran Duran celebrate their 40th anniversary in 2021 and, refusing to let the occasion pass by unnoticed, archivist and superfan Andrew ‘Durandy’ Golub is releasing his third book dedicated to the band.
‘Beautiful Colors: The Posters of Duran Duran’ is a 300-page art collection that charts the Rio group’s career through rare posters, from New Romantic roots in Birmingham through their latest world tour in support of the ‘Paper Gods’ album.
Speaking exclusively to Retro Pop, Andrew says of his latest release: “I have this archive of 16,000 pages of articles, posters… people come to visit, but I definitely have always yearned to create something that fans can take home or have for themselves.
“We spent several years updating and swapping out posters, [because] I wanted everyone who got the first edition to feel like they got something that wouldn’t just be reproduced.
“So I was swapping out images we put in. There’s about 150 new images in the book. There’s a very touching afterward. I really felt very strongly wanted to make this be different enough so that people felt like this was something bolder.
He adds: “Nick [Rhodes, keyboard player] was willing to do the foreword… So I really was very touched that they wanted to be a part of that.”
The publication, available via Amazon, is endorsed by the band, with bass played John Taylor calling the release “the perfect guide to the legacy world of Duran Duran tours and artwork”.
“I love Durandy’s limited-edition publications,” he says. “Their value goes beyond Duran Duran, as they have a lot to say about the changing state of pop music ephemera.
“We are really lucky to have him and his dedicated projects. A must for all Duran fans and then some!”
Nick adds: “Andy has amassed the largest known collection of Duran Duran posters in the world.

“It is an unprecedented visual diary of our career, spanning more than three decades, encompassing advertising, artwork, fashion, illustration, photography, and graphic design.
“He has gathered multiple international variations of album posters, scarce screen prints, obscure hand-signed ephemera, and posters for live shows that I had forgotten we had ever played.”

As part of their 40th anniversary celebrations, Duran Duran recently launched shows on both Pandora and SiriusXM.
The group is expected to return in 2021 with their 15th studio album – their first since 2015’s ‘Paper Gods’ – along with a number of planned live shows across the UK and Europe over the Summer.
Meanwhile, they kicked off the new year by releasing a stellar cover of David Bowie’s classic hit, Five Years, which the group debuted during a birthday tribute show in honour of the late star.
