John Barrowman’s first date with husband Scott Gill had a surprise guest – pop diva and all-round-icon Cher!
The couple has been together for 26 years, but their union almost didn’t happen, when John double-booked with the Believe hitmaker.
Appearing on Loose Women, the Doctor Who actor revealed he’d agreed to go out with Scott when Cher tracked him down after seeing him in a West End production of Sunset Boulevard.
“It was meant to be out first date one night but Cher was hunting me down and wanted to speak to me,” he recalled.
“She had seen me in Sunset and wanted to meet up.
“Cher was like ‘I want to take you out for dinner,’ but I was like ‘Fine but I can’t tonight as I have a date’,” he laughed, adding, “She joked that I, as a gay man, was going to stand up Cher for dinner.”
However, things turned out well all round – Cher joined the pair on their first date.
“Finally she said, ‘Bring him along’,” John said, as Scott added: “So really Cher was playing third wheel to us.
“When we left the restaurant John kissed Cher goodbye and all the photographers took pictures thinking they were together,” the architect shared. “In reality he went home with me.”
Cher’s currently recovering at home after suffering a bout of bronchitis, for which she was hospitalised earlier this month.
The All or Nothing star was due to be filming a new movie over the summer, but had to cancel plans due to the coronavirus pandemic.
She’s also teased new music, which she said is a departure from her most recent works.
