In the 50+ years Cher’s been in the spotlight, she’s released 26 studio albums, 10 compilation albums, 4 soundtrack albums and 3 live albums.

As one half of Sonny and Cher, there were also 5 studio albums, 4 compilation albums, 1 soundtrack album and 2 live albums.

That’s a combined total of 102 singles(!)

In a recent Twitter post, Cher hinted plans to hit the online stage for her first-ever virtual concert, and admitted she’s keen to switch up her usual setlist for the project.

“Was thinking of doing virtual Concert,” she penned. “Some Of My favorites that were Never Hits & Some that were…

TOO MANY SONGS?

“Only Problem … BEEN SINGING 50+ YRS TOO MANY SONG, [sic]” added the hitmaker.

While she didn’t go into further details about the songs she’d like to include, last year the star let slip her five favourite songs from her entire career which will no doubt make it into the show.

& we know what a big fan I am?.
But SFTL,YHSTLOM,BELIEVE,
ONE OF US,FAVORITE SCARS

— Cher (@cher) May 19, 2020

Believe

The least surprising number on the list – how could she not pick her biggest hit?

Released in 1998, Believe saw rock chick Cher reinvent herself – following the lukewarm reception to previous record It’s A Man’s World – into a fully-fledged dance floor diva.

Flipping to disco in the ’70s resulted in the classic Take Me Home, and this time it delivered an international smash and Cher’s signature song.

Beleve charted at No. 1 worldwide and remains one of the best-selling singles, with sales of over 11 million copies worldwide. It also scored two Grammy nominations, taking home Best Dance Recording.

The song has been performed on every tour since it’s release, usually as the encore – except for in 2014, when it was switched out for I Hope You Find It.

Song For The Lonely

Since releasing the track in 2001, Cher’s made no secret of her love for Song For The Lonely – after attracting a new wave of love following #JusticeForLivingProof, she maintained it’s atop her list of personal favourites.

The song was released as the first US single from Living Proof, and has become associated with the 9-11 attacks on the World Trade Center, which happened around the time of release.

A music video for the single shows Cher making her way round New York, from the 1800s through the 21st century, as buildings rise up around her and industry comes to life.

Song For The Lonely was performed on select dates during Living Proof: The Farewell Tour, and on the opening leg of Cher at the Colosseum. She talked about performing an acoustic version on her Dressed to Kill Tour, however the idea never came into fruition, after the jaunt was prematurely axed due to health issues.

Numerous remixes were issued for the single – including the stellar Almighty Mix – and the track is included in the jukebox musical, The Cher Show.

You Haven’t Seen The Last Of Me

You Haven’t Seen The Last Of Me is the highlight from Cher’s 2010 movie musical Burlesque, and one of the icon’s two musical numbers in the film.

However, the Diane Warren-penned track almost didn’t make it into the movie at all, and Cher explained while promoting the flick she had to fight to get it back in the movie.

Later, it proved contentious when the song was overlooked at the Oscars the following year – despite the Academy asking Cher to perform at the ceremony. She declined the invitation.

Although she feared she’d never be able to record the track – “There were two songs in my life that I didn’t think I was going to be able to sing, and that was one of them. The other one was ‘Song for the Lonely’. It was so high for me that I truly didn’t have those notes.” – Cher went on to perform the ballad on her Dressed to Kill Tour, and the recording from the movie featured during Classic Cher and the Here We Go Again Tour.

The powerful tune was also given an uplifting makeover with a number of remixes, like this cracking mix from Dave Aude.

Favourite Scars

The most surprising track on the list comes from Closer To The Truth – Favourite Scars.

While it may appear to have come out of the blue as an underdog favourite, the signs have always been there that Cher treasured the track.

Despite never being released as a single – alongside Woman’s World, I Hope You Find It, Take It Like A Man, and Sirens – Favourite Scars got a mention on the promo sticker when the album was released.

What’s more surprising, though, is that the track hasn’t made it into Cher’s live show in any form.

While Song For The Lonely and Last Of Me had runs on stage, and Cher’s spoken about adding One Of Us into her set, Favourite Scars has never been sung live.

One Of Us

The closing track from 2018’s Dancing Queen, One Of Us helped reignite Cher’s love of recording in many ways.

After 2013’s Closer To The Truth, it seemed as though the hitmaker had settled back into performing, after returning to Vegas for her Classic Cher show.

However, after landing the role as Ruby Sheridan in Mamma Mia: Here We Go Again, she rediscovered the music of ABBA, and was compelled to record more.

After singing Super Trouper and Fernando in the movie, with a bit of encouragement from ABBA duo Benny and Bjorn Cher tried out a few more recordings.

One Of Us was the first and, after she cut her vocal at home, she sent it straight to Warner – who subsequently ordered an album.

The rest is history, of course, and she’s been on the ABBA trail since – recently releasing a charity version of Chiquitita in Spanish.

Most shocking of all – according to Cher, her mum only just heard her version of One Of Us.

Take a look!

Mom just heard CHIQUITITA

BEAUTIFUL”.I Said”Mom,
Go Listen In English,You’ll Understand Story.”Oh
MOM Listen 2”ONE OF US”.Waiting 4 reviews.I ❤️2 Sing‼️❤️2 stand in front of? or onstage,Take a breath & ???COMES OUT.
AT 74 THIS IS TRULY A MIRACLE

— Cher (@cher) May 19, 2020

Cher recently confirmed she has new music coming in 2021 – and while she didn’t reveal any further details, she admitted her 27th album could be her last.

“I’m just recording an album now… This might be my last album,” she told CNN’s Christiane Amanpour.

“I feel like Tony Bennett and Betty White. But it could be my last album.”
