Britney Spears has outlined her choice of lawyer as she moves forward to end her 13-year conservatorship.
The pop star has contacted lawyer and former federal prosecutor Mathew Rosengart, who has been named among the top 100 entertainment litigators, according to TMZ.
“Pursuant to my statement in open court on June 23, 2021, my rights, and my desire to end the above-referenced conservatorship as to my father Jamie P. Spears, it is my desire to choose and retain my own counsel, at Greenberg, Traurig, LLP as set forth above,” reads papers signed by the Stronger singer.
Rosengart is a partner at Greenberg, Traurig, LLP, and has offices in Los Angeles and New York.
Her change in counsel comes after Britney’s court-appointed attorney Sam Ingham quit his position, announcing in a filing in Los Angeles Superior Court: “SAMUEL D. INGHAM III hereby resigns as court-appointed counsel for BRITNEY JEAN SPEARS, conservatee, effective upon the appointment of new court-appointed counsel.”
Officials at his Loeb & Loeb law firm are also leaving the conservatorship.
It’s not the only change in Britney’s camp; her longtime manager Larry Rudolph announced his departure from the post in a letter to Britney’s father Jamie Spears and attorney Jodi Montgomery – the singer’s co-conservators.
Last month, she appeared in court in Los Angeles to demand an end to the legal arrangement, insisting it has left her “depressed” and “traumatised”.
“I’ve lied and told the whole world ‘I’m okay. And I’m happy.’ It’s a lie,” she said. “I thought [if] just maybe I said that enough… Because I’ve been in denial. I’ve been in shock. I am traumatised.
“You know, fake it till you make it. But now I’m telling you the truth. Okay? I’m not happy. I can’t sleep. I’m so angry. It’s insane. And I’m depressed. I cry every day.”
Following Britney’s shocking claims, fans supporting the #FreeBritney movement and stars took to social media to lend their support.
