Brandy has shared details of her forthcoming memoir, due out later this year.
The R&B star will release her debut tome on October 7, with the book billed as “a raw, intimate portrait of her life, charting her growth to stardom from Mississippi churches to Hollywood spotlights”.
An official description adds: “Brandy’s debut memoir is a fearless and remarkable story of hope, resilience and the strength it takes to make peace with the past.”
Exploring her life and career, from landing a record deal aged 14 to releasing her platinum-selling debut album one year later, starring in the hit sitcom ‘Moesha’ and becoming the first Black actress to play a Disney princess in the 1997 TV film ‘Cinderella’, the multi-hyphenate admitted that writing the memoir was “one of the most challenging yet rewarding experiences of my life”.
“I allowed myself the space to be fearless and vulnerable to reveal some of my most intimate moments,” she explained in a social media post. “For the first time, I am sharing my story – honest, unfiltered and not through the lens of media or critics.
“From singing in church as a little girl in McComb, Mississippi, touring across the world, starring as Moesha, and becoming the first Black Cinderella – I’ve experienced unforgettable highs.
“But what you didn’t see were the struggles behind the scenes, the trials that tested my spirit and shaped the woman I am today.”
Brandy added: “This memoir is more than a book; it’s a reflection of resilience, hope and rediscovering myself beyond the fame, the music and the spotlight. This memoir is a lifetime in the making, and I hope my words bring inspiration as you navigate your own journey.”
