Boy George thrilled fans on Instagram with a stripped-back ‘jazz mix’ version of the Culture Club classic, Karma Chameleon.
The track, which became the band’s biggest hits in 1983, topping the charts in the UK and US, and going on to be one of the best-selling singles of all time worldwide, is known for its upbeat rhythm and feelgood vibe.
After dropping a new Culture Club tune over the weekend, the star borrowed a stripped-back backing track from impersonator Keith George – who performs his The Boy George Experience show in Tenerife – for his latest performance, as he quipped, “I am literally doing karaoke to my biggest hit!”
“I keep getting asked to sing Karma Chameleon and I’m like, ‘Oh my god, why would I inflict that on people?!’,” he laughed.
“I was speaking to Keith… he sent me this and I love it, so I’m going to give it a go.”
After performing the stunning new rendition, he said, “There’s something very ironic about my impersonator giving me a stripped-down version of Karma Chameleon.
“That’s what’s special about this moment – I just got a bit emotional!”
The performance comes after Boy George released new solo tune, the aptly titled Isolation, last week.
