Boy George will re-record Culture Club’s classic hit, Do You Really Want To Hurt Me?, with The Voice Australia contestant Lucy Griffiths.
The Karma Chameleon hitmaker met the superfan when she auditioned for the talent contest, and he told The Sunday Telegraph he’s looking forward to his recording session with the 17-year-old.
“I fully intend to keep my promise to Lucy,” George told the publication.
“It may take a little longer to happen due to current events, but it will happen.”
During her audition, Lucy wore a Boy George T-shirt as she belted out an opera version of Do You Really Want to Hurt Me?, leaving the hitmaker awestruck.
While the singer was unable to turn his big red chair because his team was full, he gushed: “Let me just tell you, I thought you were fantastic. I would have turned for you if I had space. Completely.
George told Lucy that the song she performed was, “deeply, deeply personal” to him, and he “loved” her “beautiful” version of the track.
“It wasn’t perfect, but what you did was so cool and clever,” he told her.
George then took Lucy’s hand and led her off the stage, explaining that he wanted to re-record the classic single with her.
Speaking to Lucy’s family backstage, he added: “I’m just saying to her, I actually mean what I said. I’m actually doing this. It’s not just a TV moment for me.”
