Ariana Grande is back with her ‘90s-influenced single yes, and?.
Heavily influenced by Madonna’s seminal 1990 smash Vogue, yes, and? is an untapped sound for Grande and ushers in a new era for the US chart-topper.
Recorded in New York City, the new single was written and produced by Ariana Grande, Max Martin and Ilya Salmanzadeh.
Grande first teased yes, and? earlier this week on social media to an immediate outpouring of fanfare online in anticipation for the new single.
Tackling a number of personal issues in its lyrics, including recent press hounding surrounding her personal life and social media posts, she sings: ‘Now, I’m so done with caring / What you think, no, I won’t hide / Underneath your own projections / Or change my most authentic life’.
An accompanying music video builds upon those themes, opening with industry critics gossiping about Grande in an elevator before emerging to find her delivering a performance masterclass to the new track and reminding everyone of her superstar credentials.
