Celebrating 50 years of Waterloo, ABBA’s ABBAtars appeared during the Grand Final of the Eurovision Song Contest to reminisce on their iconic victory.
The group became the first Swedish act to win the Contest back in Brighton in 1974 with their classic hit single, and during Saturday (May 11) night’s show the group’s digital avatars were beamed into the Malmö Arena.
The scenes saw Agnetha Fältskog, Björn Ulvaeus, Benny Andersson and Anni-Frid Lyngstad reminisce on their victory, half a century ago, from the ABBA Arena in London, before introducing archival footage of the performance.
After hosts Malin Åkerman and Petra Mede introduced the segment, Charlotte Perrelli, Carola and Conchita Wurst took to the stage to deliver a powerhouse rendition of Waterloo as the packed arena sang along.
Immediately prior, Malin teased a performance from a Swedish pop group “beginning with an A”, before introducing a reunited Alcazar to the stage, who performed their hit Crying At The Discoteque.
