The Script are back with a brand new album and a huge run of global tour dates kicking off later this year.
The band – fronted by singer Danny O’Donoghue – will release ‘The User’s Guide To Being Human’ on August 14 via BMG, with lead single ‘Man In The Arena’ out now.
It serves as the follow-up to 2024 LP ‘Satellites‘, which dealt with grief following the death of bandmate and friend Mark Sheehan a year earlier and was accompanied by an international arena tour which paid tribute to the musician.
Recorded in Topanga Canyon, Los Angeles, the latest offering from the band paves a clear path for The Script going forward.
O’Donoghue says: “The title is what this album is about. If you need something to remind you of the spectrum of feelings and emotions that make you feel human, this is it.”
On the single, with lyrics taken in part from a famous speech by American President Theodore Roosevelt, he elaborates: “He talks about how honours don’t belong to the critics. They don’t belong to the people sitting on the couch, laughing at the person in the ring stumbling and falling around.
“The honours belong to the one who gets in there and whose face is marred with dust and blood. I remember reading it and being like: that needs to be in a tune, the energy in it is beautiful.”
‘The User’s Guide To Being Human’ is released on August 14 and available to pre-order from Amazon, HMV, Rough Trade, Townsend and more. Listen to ‘Man In The Arena’ below.
