Madonna‘s Grammy-winning ‘Ray Of Light’ collaborator William Orbit has a sequel to that classic record ready to go – that he says will never see the light of day.
The pair worked together extensively on the 1998 classic LP, along with 2000’s ‘Music’ and 2012 album ‘MDNA’, and while the songwriter/producer has already written what he considers a spiritual follow-up to their first outing, he says Madonna won’t get back to him about putting the project out.
In a message shared on Facebook, the musician – who has also worked with artists including All Saints, Robbie Williams and Sugababes – explained that despite mooting the idea of the record, he hasn’t heard back on the subject “in over two decades”.
“Right. Let’s put this Madonna ROL 2.0 thing to rest here and now folks. Can get exhausting,” he penned. Is NOT going to happen. Look, why don’t I just lay it out, cos I get asked constantly.
“I have an album ready that, in my opinion, is indeed the successor to Ray Of Light. Everything about how it was made and how it sounds yells that from the first few bars.”
Despite the lack of communication, he insisted he holds no resentment, explaining: “Zero zero absolute zero hard feelings. Are you kidding, I will always love that woman. For real. She made my career.
In the same post, Orbit also revealed he is writing a book that will include the full story along with “deep chapters” and “pop goss”, joking that he has “zero fucks for the music biz.”
It comes as the ‘Nothing Really Matters’ singer prepares to release her 15th studio album – a collaboration with Stuart Price and billed as a sequel to 2005’s ‘Confessions On A Dance Floor’ – later this year.
