Melanie C has given a disappointing update on the future of the Spice Girls, confirming the group won’t be reuniting to celebrate 30 years since their chart-topping 1996 debut.
Despite fans buzzing with anticipation that Sporty, Baby, Scary, Ginger and Posh could return to the stage to mark the milestone anniversary of ‘Wannabe’ and their subsequent debut album ‘Spice’ – featuring ‘Say You’ll Be There’, ‘2 Become 1’ and ‘Who Do You Think You Are?’ – the singer insisted they won’t be back together anytime soon.
Speaking on Australian radio’s The Smallzy Show, she declared: “No, there is no reunion.”
However, the singer – who will release her ninth solo album ‘Sweat’ on May 1, followed by a world tour later in the year – went on to insist she’s hopeful that they’ll do something together again one day.
“We are communicating all the time. We want to do something,” she added. “Who knows when, but I still feel very optimistic, and I keep my fingers crossed that you will see the Spice Girls together at some point in the future.”
The last time the Spice Girls performed together was during the 2012 London Olympics closing ceremony.
