Madonna, Coldplay and Dua Lipa are reportedly the three acts booked to headline the 2024 edition of Glastonbury.
According to reports, organisers will combat long-running criticism of male-dominated headline slots with two female artists leading the pack for the first time.
With her third album due soon, it’s believed Friday will see Levitating hitmaker Dua take to the Pyramid Stage, with Chris Martin and co. headlining Saturday night at Glastonbury.
Meanwhile, Queen Of Pop Madonna will apparently close out Sunday night, on the back of her ‘Celebration World Tour’.
Organisers are said to be “thrilled” with the line-up, with sources telling the Mail On Sunday: “It’s the dream line-up, a brilliant mix of different music and different atmospheres. Then, of course, you have Madonna on the final night, which will be epic.”
Coldplay previously headlined the festival in 2002, 2005, 2011 and 2016, while it will be Dua’s first headline appearance and Madonna’s first ever performance at the Worthy Farm event.
It comes weeks after fans were convinced Madonna would top the bill when organiser Emily Eavis told Annie Mac and Nick Grimshaw on the ‘Sidetracked with Annie and Nick’ podcast that a late call from a “really big American artist” influenced the line-up.
“I thought it was kind of taking shape, and then last week I just got a call, and this is what happens if you wait a little longer, because quite often we’ll be booked up from July,” she said. “But this year we’re holding out for a little bit longer.
“And then last week I got a call from [a representative of] a really big American artist saying, ‘This person’s around next year’, and I was like, ‘Oh my God, this is incredible. Thank God we held the slot.'”
The call coincided with Emily seeing Madonna at The O2 in London, however she insisted people don’t read too much into the timing of both events, adding: “It was incredible. I just was blown away by it to be honest.
“I walked away and I was like, ‘I’ve got to post about this’. I’ve posted about going to lots of gigs before, but I didn’t expect it to be quite such big news.
“Everybody knows that I’ve always wanted Madonna to play Glastonbury. It’s not a big news story.”
Emily also confirmed they’ve nailed down this year’s Sunday afternoon Legends slot performer, with a female artist set to follow in the footsteps of 2023 performer, Yusuf / Cat Stevens.
