Kylie Minogue is back in the UK Top 10 as Padam Padam climbs to a new peak of No. 9.
The lead single from her upcoming 16th album, ‘Tension’, this week climbs into the upper echelons of the charts, beating her 2014 single Into The Blue to become her best-performing solo single since All The Lovers in 2010.
It’s one spot behind 2011’s Higher – on which Kylie featured alongside Taio Cruz and Travie McCoy – which hit No. 8.
“This is truly amazing and 19 year old me would say the same thing,” says Kylie (via Official Charts). “I am so thankful to everyone involved with Padam Padam and am astounded at how people have made it their own. The song belongs to everyone now and I’m loving every second of it.”
Last week, Padam Padam hit a new peak of No. 12 and this week advances higher thanks to the release of an extended mix, along with a limited run of cassette singles.
Padam Padam is one of 11 tracks on ‘Tension’ – alongside previous release 10 out of 10 with Oliver Heldens – of which Kylie says: “I started this album with an open mind and a blank page. Unlike my last two albums there wasn’t a ‘theme’, it was about finding the heart or the fun or the fantasy of that moment and always trying to service the song.
“I wanted to celebrate each song’s individuality and to dive into that freedom. I would say it’s a blend of personal reflection, club abandon and melancholic high.”
For the LP, the pop icon has worked with a number of producers, with seven of the tracks being produced and co-written with her long-time collaborators, Biff Stannard and Duck Blackwell.
Discussing the recording process, Kylie adds: “I loved being back in the studio with my collaborators but was also able to benefit from remote recording, which we have all got used to – my mobile studio never left my side for a year and a half!
“The album is a mix of songs I have written and songs which really spoke to me. Making this album helped me navigate challenging times and celebrate the now. I hope it accompanies listeners on their own journeys and becomes part of their story.”
