Icona Pop have joined forces with longtime writing partner Yaeger on their new single, Shit We Do For Love.
Hot on the heels of their latest club release Faster, the duo team up with the rising Swedish artist for another high-octant track, with its infectious hook and catchy lyrics inspired by the late nineties rave scene.
It offers another taste of what’s to come from the duo’s hotly anticipated second studio album, due this summer.
Speaking about the track, Aino & Caroline reveal: “This one is so fresh, we literally took it from the studio session and gave it to the label to release and asked them to move everything else.
“We were in the studio together with our friend and writing partner Hanna Yaeger talking about the craziest stuff we’ve ever done for love, we all had so many fun crazy stories.
“It just came together in a way that felt so current and urgent we had to release it straight away.”

The new album is Icona Pop’s first in a decade and speaking to RETROPOP earlier this year, they revealed how the project came about during the Covid lockdown when their live schedule was wiped.
“We said, ‘OK – let’s go in, have no rules, and see where we end up.’ And it’s pretty cool that during the most quiet times of our lives, we wrote our clubbiest songs ever!”
The new material arrives 10 years after their breakthrough – which the pair reveals almost didn’t happen when the team around them at the time cast doubt on the potential for I Love It to become a hit.
Recalling the “shitty time”, Aino shares: “Some people that we used to work with didn’t think the song was good enough and we were like, ‘Don’t you hear it? This song is so good – we need to release it!’.
“So we actually released it ourselves first and then Atlantic Records picked it up and we were just living life.”
In the time since, the duo has released multiple singles and more recently they’ve both become first-time parents. Aino muses: “We’ve changed a lot and, of course, you have a lot to live up to when you’ve had such big success – especially with one song – but there’s so much more to Icona Pop as well.
“It’s not just about I Love It; it’s about our friendship and the love we have for what we do.”
