Jack Savoretti has released a stunning stripped-back cover of The Weeknd’s global hit single Blinding Lights.
The singer-songwriter – who last year topped the charts himself with his seventh studio album ‘Europiana’ – dropped his take on the ‘80s-inspired tune across digital platforms.
Set against piano and strings, the cover is a far cry from the synth-heavy production of the original and places Jack’s raw vocal front and centre.
Speaking in the June 2022 issue of Retro Pop, Jack opens up about his struggles in the music industry early in his career, admitting: “When I look back, I am still very confused at why I never let go.
“I still can’t explain to myself – if I look back 10 years ago, especially – why I didn’t walk away. I must have been resilient, because honestly, people were not kind to us.
“The industry was not kind to us. It really told us to piss off. They wanted nothing to do with us for a long time. And the fact that I didn’t just take that and leave, I must have been a pretty stubborn 20 year old.”
Now, he’s riding high on the success of his latest chart-topper and, following the release of his deluxe LP ‘Europiana: Encore‘, he’s having more fun than ever.
“You want to be sunburned and dancing late at night listening to it,” he beams. “These are all songs for open windows, open rooftops, and sweating under the stars.
“I wanted to mix it up with the whole ‘Encore’ vibe.”
