Bright Light Bright Light has premiered a music video for his single Cry At Films.
Originally released back in 2012 with vocals from Scissor Sisters’ guitarist Del Marquis, the singer-songwriter is revisiting the track amid celebrations for the 10th anniversary of his debut album ‘Make Me Believe In Hope’.
Alongside the visual, which features a new solo version of the track, he’s also shared an EP of alternate mixes of the song.
Speaking in the June 2022 issue of Retro Pop, Bright Light Bright Light opened up about his love of cinema, which ultimately inspired his stage name.
Confirming it came from a line spoken by Gizmo in the 1984 movie ‘Gremlins’, he explained: “The first thing that came into my brain, without any thought whatsoever, was Bright Light Bright Light, and I was like, ‘No, I don’t think that’s it’.
“I spent about two weeks, every day, thinking about what could be a better name and I couldn’t think of a single thing. They were all shit!”
On trusting his gut instinct, he added: “I realised how perfect it actually was to use a cinematic quote in my name, because I don’t think I’d really understood how much cinema influences my writing and my aesthetic.
“I always knew that I loved watching films, but a lot of the sounds that I use really do come from like a soundtrack that I loved, or a film scene or a character in a film or something like that.
“It really has just shaped my life. So it makes total sense for the name to be like referencing a film.”
