Kylie Minogue brings her ‘DISCO’ era full circle with the release of her iconic ‘Infinite Disco’ livestream show.
Originally broadcast in November 2020, the concert features tracks from Kylie’s 15th studio album ‘DISCO’ – which earned the superstar a UK chart record when it made her the first female artist to top the charts across five consecutive decades – alongside classics from her career.
The concert was later included with physical editions of her ‘DISCO: Guest List Edition’ deluxe repack – on CD, DVD and Blu-Ray – and the show will now receive a wider release, having been uploaded across digital platforms in April.
Kicking off with teasers of Magic and Come Into My World, Kylie opens her global party with style on I Love It, the first of nine tracks from the ‘DISCO’ record to be performed during the broadcast.
Lead single Say Something is born again thanks to stellar guest vocals from the House Gospel Choir, while a medley of deep cut Light Years and new tune Supernova is a mash-up of epic proportions.
Speaking of which, the blend of Slow and Donna Summer classic Love to Love You Baby is another genius reinterpretation from Kylie’s unbeatable musical director Steve Anderson, which quickly became a fan-favourite and encompasses everything the ‘DISCO’ era is about.
Alongside standouts from her career, including All The Lovers, In Your Eyes and Love at First Sight, ‘Infinite Disco’ highlights the immense quality of the ‘DISCO’ album, with tracks like Last Chance, Real Groove and Dance Floor Darling more than holding their own alongside highlights from the past three decades.
Originally aired at the height of the Covid-19 pandemic, the livestream sought to “take viewers through a parallel universe from solitary isolation to an alternative euphoric dance-floor community of togetherness” – a feat that Kylie achieved over the past 18 months with an impeccable campaign that turned her Nashville-inspired ‘Golden’ on its head and saw her take the crown as the reigning queen of the dance floor.
In some respects, the wide release of ‘Infinite Disco’ is bittersweet, as it likely indicates that a full ‘DISCO’ tour is off the cards, with Kylie confirming work has already begun on tracks for her 16th studio album. The hitmaker previously said a touring concert would draw on the “energy” of the album and teased plans to switch up her staging for her live return.
But let’s not dwell on what could have been – fact is, we’ve been blessed with an incredible live performance against the odds, that will live on as a landmark moment in Kylie’s unstoppable pop legacy.
