ABBA have joked that every act that releases new music after 40 years should receive a Grammy nomination.
The group returned earlier this year with ‘Voyage’ – their first studio collection since 1981 release ‘The Visitors – and topped the charts worldwide.
Stateside, the album became their highest-charting – peaking at No. 2 on the BIllboard 200 – and the band is thrilled to be recognised by the Recording Academy for the first time.
In a statement to Variety, they said: “A Grammy should be mandatory for those who dare leave 40 years between album releases.
“We suggest a new category. ABBA – Agnetha, Björn, Benny, Anni-Frid.”
The group have been nominated for Record of the Year for I Still Have Faith In You alongside artists including Lady Gaga and Tony Bennett (I Get a Kick Out of You), Olivia Rodrigo (Drivers License), Justin Bieber (Peaches featuring Daniel Caesar and Giveon) and more.
In a review of the album, Retro Pop called ‘Voyage’ “a fitting closing chapter in the tale of Sweden’s best-loved musical export”.
‘Voyage’ is available on CD, vinyl and cassette.
