Britney Spears’ lawyer Mathew Rosengart is demanding answers from her dad Jamie.
Amid the pop icon’s ongoing conservatorship struggle, Jamie is urging the judge overseeing the matter to end the arrangement in an apparent bid to avoid a deposition concerning his actions.
It’s been reported Jamie installed recording and listening devices in the pop star’s bedroom during his 13-year stint as her conservator.
He was suspended as Britney’s conservator following a court hearing last month and, amid his fight to shut down the situation, Rosengart has filed legal documents suggesting Jamie wants to end the conservatorship to avoid answering questions under oath.
According to TMZ, he is demanding “all documents and communications relating to any recording or listening device in the home or bedroom of Britney Jean Spears, including all documents and communications relating to the decision to place any such recording or listening device and the records of any such recording”.
Rosengart is also demanding communications relating to “the electronic surveillance, monitoring, cloning, or recording of the activity of Britney Jean Spears’ personal telephone, including but not limited to the surveillance, monitoring, cloning, icloud mirroring, or recording of calls, emails, text messages, internet browser use or history, and social media use or direct messages on social media.”
News of the surveillance was initially uncovered by director Samantha Starks for the documentary ‘Controlling Britney Spears’, with Rosengart telling the judge the documentary’s findings were “deeply disturbing”.
In court documents filed on September 27, he demanded immediate action and called Jamie’s actions “horrifying and unconscionable”.
During a hearing on September 29, Jamie was ordered to turn over the documents relating to the conservatorship to John Zabel, a certified public accountant, who has been appointed as a temporary conservator.
Jodi Montgomery, who manages Britney’s day-to-day wellbeing and medical decisions, will remain in her role for the time being.
Britney reportedly “burst into tears” upon hearing the judge’s decision to terminate Jamie, with sources revealing: “For the longest time, she had begun to think that she would never see the day that her father’s domineering control over every single aspect of her life would end, but it finally happened.”
And those close to Britney rushed to celebrate her happy news, with fiancé Sam Asghari writing: “Free Britney! Congratulations!!!!!!!!!”
He went on to credit the Toxic star’s followers for their role in the landmark decision, insisting: “Her fan base is called the army for a reason.”
Other stars who hit up social media to share their joy include Cher, who tweeted: “Thank God. I’ve talked and prayed about this for years. I’m more than thrilled for her. Bless our superstar.”
Dionne Warwick added, “This is wonderful news. She can now breathe. Congratulations, Britney. Enjoy your life,” while La Toya Jackson shared, “A huge congratulations,” with the singer.
