The follow-up to the New York Times’ ‘Framing Britney Spears’ documentary has debuted on Hulu.

‘Controlling Britney Spears’ continues where the recent feature left off, documenting the singer’s ongoing legal battle to be freed from her 13-year-long conservatorship. 

Directed by Samantha Stark, it explores new allegations about Spears’ life and how it is controlled by her handlers, including her father Jamie, who is about to step down as her conservator.

The filmmaker says: “When Britney spoke publicly about her conservatorship in detail for the first time during a court hearing in June, she said a reason she hadn’t spoken up earlier is she didn’t think people would believe her.

“She said she felt abused under the conservatorship and questioned whether the judge thought she was lying.

“Britney’s speech motivated the people in this film to seek us out to share their stories – at great risk to themselves – because they felt compelled to back up what Britney was saying with evidence they had or moments they witnessed.”

It’s debut comes alongside Netflix documentary ‘Britney vs. Spears’, which is also set to drop in the build-up to the star’s latest court hearing. 

Her lawyer Mathew Rosengart called for the conservatorship to be terminated without any further medical evaluation, insisting she clearly has the “capacity and capability” to “identify, engage, and instruct counsel of her own choice”.

The Toxic singer has been fighting to remove her father from the controlling role he has held for 13 years while seeking an end to the overall conservatorship, which has left her “traumatised” and “depressed”.
