Netflix has shared the first trailer for their highly-anticipated Britney Spears documentary ‘Britney Vs. Spears’.

Set to debut September 28, the feature “tells the explosive story of Britney’s life and her public and private search for freedom”.

An initial 18-second teaser featured a 2009 audio clip of the Slumber Party hitmaker, in which the singer leaves a message for an attorney.

A subsequent, full0-length trailer shows footage of ‘Britney Vs. Spears’ filmmaker Erin Lee Carr with journalist Jenny Eliscu, and asides from Britney, who states: “I’ve worked my whole life. I don’t owe these people anything. I deserve to have the same rights as anybody does. It’s been 13 years and it’s enough.”

A Netflix statement reads: “The world knows Britney Spears: performer, artist, icon, but in the last few years, her name has been publicly tied to another, more mysterious term: conservatorship.

“Featuring years-long investigative work, exclusive interviews and new documents, this Netflix feature film paints a thorough portrait of the pop star’s trajectory from girl-next-door to a woman trapped by fame and family and her own legal status.

“It shows Britney’s life without utilizing the traumatic images that have previously defined her.”

The film’s debut comes on the eve of the Lucky star’s latest court hearing to see the end of the 13-year-long legal arrangement.

A press release adds: “The film weaves a shocking timeline of old and new players, secret rendezvous and Britney’s behind-the-scenes fight for her own autonomy.

“Text messages and a voicemail, as well as new interviews with key players, make clear what Britney herself has attested: the full story has yet to be told.”

While Britney herself has yet to comment on the latest insight into her ongoing situation, her fiancé Sam Asghari appeared to oppose the film, writing on Instagram: “I hope the profit from these docs go towards fighting agains injustice #freebritney. [sic]”

News of the film comes as the pop star’s lawyer Mathew Rosengart called for the conservatorship to be terminated without any further medical evaluation, insisting she clearly has the “capacity and capability” to “identify, engage, and instruct counsel of her own choice”.

The Toxic singer has been fighting to remove her father from the controlling role he has held for 13 years while seeking an end to the overall conservatorship, which has left her “traumatised” and “depressed”.
