Tony Hadley was unsure if he’d make it back home to the UK after finding himself in America as the coronavirus lockdown began.
Speaking on The Jeremy Vine Show, the Spandau Ballet star, who is set to perform some of the first gigs since lockdown as part of Live Nation’s Drive-In series, revealed he was travelling between Japan, Australia, and the US when the pandemic escalated.
“We were initially due to go to Singapore, that got cancelled because of coronavirus, we just slipped into Japan, then Australia, and we weren’t sure if we were going to be let into America,” the Gold star explained.
"We wanted to write a song about being together, love at first sight… We thought it was an ideal single for the summer."

“Fortunately, we were, but we then found that someone on the boat had the coronavrius, and a couple of our party fell quite ill.
“Literally, as soon as we got back to the UK we had a complete lockdown, so we were lucky to get back!”
The True singer’s been hard at work during the Covid-19 crisis and recently released the brilliant new single Obvious, alongside a video directed by his daughter, Zara.
“We wanted to write a song that was about being together, love at first sight… just all loving each other,” he shared, adding, “We thought it was an ideal single for the summer.
“It’s just fun – it makes people feel good!”
