Miley Cyrus paid tribute to Madonna with a stellar performance of three of the Queen of Pop’s biggest hits.
The singer hit the stage for Peacock’s Pride Month special ‘Miley Cyrus Presents Stand by You’, which aired on the streamer from the Ryman Auditorium in Nashville, Tennessee.
It featured Miley onstage with country music stars the Brothers Osborne, Orville Peck, Mickey Guyton, Little Big Town and Maren Morris for a series of performances of LGBTQ+ anthems.
And in honour of Madonna, Miley pieced together an impressive medley of classic hits Music, Express Yourself and Like a Prayer, which went down a storm with fans worldwide.
It’s not just the pop star’s followers who were impressed with the set – Miley shared a clip of herself performing Madonna’s 1989 song and stated: “I put the EX-tra in EX-press yourself!”
Other highlights from the show included Miley’s renditions of Cyndi Lauper’s True Colors, ABBA’s Dancing Queen with Maren Morris, and Cher’s Believe – which she performed alongside a troupe of drag acts recreating memorable looks from the music icon.
It’s the latest in a string of cover versions from Miley, who released her own take on Blondie’s Heart of Glass last year after debuting the tune during the 2020 iHeartRadio Music Festival.
Following the show, frontwoman Debbie Harry praised the star for making the track “uniquely her’s”.
“We haven’t actually spoken, but we’ve written back and forth and I congratulated her on doing something that was uniquely her with Heart of Glass’,” she told NME.
“I thought she did a great job and I liked the way the performance looked and she’s a force to be reckoned with. I’m really proud of the fact she did our song and made it uniquely hers.”
And Bonnie Tyler also heaped praise on Miley after the singer tackled her classic hit It’s a Heartache.
Taking to Twitter to rave about Miley’s rendition, Bonnie penned: “Hearing Miley singing ‘It’s a Heartache’ has honestly made my day!
“I would LOVE to duet with you some time Miley Cyrus.”
It didn’t take long for the pop star to respond, telling the music veteran she’s totally down for the pair hitting the studio together.
“Not sure there’s an artist I’ve listened to more than I have you,” gushed Miley. “You’ve made me feel heard since I was a little raspy voiced girl. Love love love that!”
