Britney Spears has wanted her father removed from their current conservatorship agreement for a number of years, according to newly unearthed court documents. 

Papers obtained by the New York Times have revealed more details of the Toxic singer’s ongoing legal conflict, suggesting Britney wanted to explore the removal of Jamie as conservator from as early as 2014. 

“[Britney] articulated she feels the conservatorship has become an oppressive and controlling tool against her,” a court investigator wrote in a 2016 report, according to the publication. 

It is claimed the pop star had said the conservatorship system had “too much control,” with the singer insisting: “Too, too much!”

The report was published the day before Stronger star Britney is set to personally address a court hearing on June 23, amid her petition to have Jamie replaced by Jodi Montgomery as her conservator. 

Jamie has been her conservator since the arrangement was put in place in 2008 but, since Jodi was made co-conservator in 2019 – when she stepped in to replace Jamie as he battled health issues – the singer has requested he relinquish complete control to her. 

Despite the mounting controversy surrounding the arrangement, Britney has never argued against her conservatorship.
