Bucks Fizz star Bobby G turned down the opportunity to reunite with his former bandmates to celebrate the group’s 40th anniversary.

Over the weekend (April 4), original members Cheryl Baker, Mike Nolan and Jay Aston celebrated four decades since winning the Eurovision Song Contest with their classic hit, Making Your Mind Up.

However, while the trio – who now perform as The Fizz – were all up for the party, Bobby apparently declined to take part with his estranged bandmates, following decades of public fallout.

“We know many of you are curious to see former members taking part and there will of course be a nod to Bobby Gee,” the group explained in a post to their fan club.

“However despite being asked to contribute to the event he declined and we must respect that he has chosen to commemorate the occasion in his own way.”

Bobby was an original member of the group and appeared on all five Bucks Fizz studio albums. Following the band’s split, he briefly reunited with Cheryl, Mike and former singer Shelley Preston in 2004, before once again exiting the band.

Cheryl, Mike and Shelley continued to perform together through 2009, when Jay returned to the fold. They later adopted The Fizz moniker and have since released three albums, including UK Top 40 releases ‘The F-Z of Pop’ and ‘Smoke & Mirrors’.

To mark four decades since their victory, The Fizz hosted a massive day of live stream events, featuring “interviews, stories from the past, songs, quizzes, unseen photos and a few surprises,” on the anniversary of their big win.

Additionally, the group has announced the release of a new coffee table book, featuring photography of the band from throughout the years.

“The book will feature lots of unseen photo shoot shots and photos from the groups personal collections,” promised The Fizz. “Some real gems!”

Cheryl previously teased big plans for the group in 2021, revealing: “It’s our 40th anniversary next year and we are really excited about it!

“There’s all sorts of fabulous things in the pipeline… the main thing is that we’re going into the studio with Mike Stock to do album number four for The Fizz.

It was also confirmed the group had booked a gig at Indigo at The O2 to celebrate their 40th – however the show has been put on hold due to the coronavirus pandemic.
